“Siegtal pur”: Proven concept with a few innovations

Siegburg/Betzdorf/Siegen/Netphen. Cleaned and oiled the chain? The saddle adjusted and enough air in the tires? If you can put a tick behind these questions, you should have already marked July 6 in your calendar - unless you don't like being out and about and certainly not in company. Because on this Sunday, “Siegtal pur”, the region's big cycling event, will attract thousands of cyclists and inline skaters to the federal and state roads. They will once again have free rein along the Sieg - through the Rhineland, Westerwald and Siegerland. And in keeping with its 50th anniversary, the Siegen-Wittgenstein district will also be taking part again this time, meaning that participants in the three districts of SI, AK and SU will have a route of around 110 kilometers at their disposal.

Preparations are now almost complete and the (tried and tested) concept has largely been retained. We would like to take this opportunity to remind you once again: Despite the major roadworks on the B 62 in Niederschelderhütte starting in July, this area can be passed without any problems during “Siegtal pur” - but please take particular care here. To ensure that the gap at Etzbach/Pirzenthal is closed, the THW will, as usual, install a temporary bridge over the Sieg in the run-up to the event.

Here is an overview of the most important information:

• The route: Depending on the angle, the route begins or ends in Siegburg or Netphen. The district and state borders are crossed in Au (Sieg) and Niederschelden respectively.
• The catering: No participant will go hungry or thirsty at “Siegtal pur”. Many clubs and other providers will be serving food and drinks along the route, often with musical accompaniment.
• The breakdown service: “First aid” for bicycles will be provided in Eitorf, Dattenfeld, Etzbach (for the first time), Wallmenroth, at the “Durchbruch” in Brachbach and at the HTS junction in Siegen-Eiserfeld. In many places, the DRK and the MHD will be on hand to help with human injuries.
• The changes: Due to the construction site, there will be no program directly in front of the Erzquell brewery; the alternative site is opposite behind the Siegbrücke bridge at the junction with Stahlwerkstraße. In Freusburg, the summer festival at the community centre will be organized by all local clubs this time and in Kirchen (at the building yard) “Siegtal Musicals” will be presenting itself. At the traffic circle in Betzdorf, there will be a large party with the band “UnArt”, presented by the Scheuerfeld Carnival Association.
• The supporting program: There is a lot on offer not only directly on the road, for example In Hennef, for example, it is worth making a detour to the Weldergoverner Gassenflohmarkt, in Eitorf to the “aufgeSCHLOSSen für Kunst” event at Merten Castle or in Siegen to the summer festival at Oberes Schloss.
• The train: The S-Bahn from Cologne will run to Wissen during “Siegtal pur”. In addition, the railroad intends to run special trains every hour to supplement the existing lines.
